IACUC - Training
Principal Investigators are responsible for assuring that everyone under their supervision involved in the care and use of laboratory animals is properly trained and understands his or her
obligation to comply with state and federal regulations, the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals, University policies and procedures set forth by the IACUC, and the specifics of the
approved protocol.
The IACUC requires that all IACUC members, researchers, students, and anyone working with laboratory animals complete training prior to any involvement with animal subjects. The IACUC supports two
online training programs that are designed to provide the user with required information on the humane care and use of laboratory animals as mandated by federal regulations.
The first training course can be found at http://www.citiprogram.org Once there, simply click on "New Users Registser Here". Under the "Select your Institution
of Organization" page select UNIVERSITY OF ALABAMA in the "Participating Institutions" drop down box. Next, you will proceed to create your own username and password and select the desired course.
The second training course is provided by the Laboratory Animal Training Association (LATA) and can be found at http://hazel.forest.net/latanet/client/alabama/introduction.htm Registration information for this course can be obtained by contracting Environmental Health and Safeth (EHS) at (205) 348-5905. This
course will automatically provide UA with a record of the training you completed.
