Contracts and Subawards present unique issues to the researcher. University research may be sponsored by federal or state governments, private corporations, or public charities and foundations. Each of these sponsors brings a slightly different set of expectations, and contract form, to the funding of the work.

Considerations When Negotiating an Agreement

The Bayh-Dole Act, 35 U.S.C. § 200, et seq.
Allows non-profit institutions that make inventions under federal grants to elect to retain title to those inventions and commericalize them by licensing arrangements.

Export Controls
Export Controls are Federal Regulations that restrict the export of certain goods, technologies and information. Researchers can “export” without leaving the country, as well as by disclosing certain information to foreign nationals in academic and research settings on campus.
